Shandong Second Medical University traces its medical teaching to 1951 and sits on a large multi-college campus in Weifang, with nineteen colleges and a broad set of undergraduate programmes. It became a provincial university in its current form in 2023, after decades as Weifang Medical University. Your child studies the early MBBS years here, then moves into clinical training at the university’s directly affiliated hospitals, led by the 3A Affiliated Hospital with more than 1,600 beds. The School of International Education, which has run international programmes since 2003, handles your child’s day-to-day support, Chinese language study, and HSK preparation.
The City, Weifang, Shandong
Weifang is a working city in central Shandong, known worldwide as the Kite Capital and host of the annual international kite festival. The climate is cool-north: winters run roughly minus 3 to plus 5 degrees and summers 28 to 35 degrees, cold but manageable with a proper coat, milder than the Liaoning campuses further north. Your child gets around by city bus and DiDi, and Weifang’s high-speed rail station links to Qingdao and Jinan inside one to two hours, with onward connections across China. Weifang has its own domestic airport, and Qingdao’s international airport, the usual entry point on flights from Pakistan, is about one and a half to two hours away by road or rail. Living costs sit below those of Qingdao or Jinan, which keeps your family’s total outlay lower.
