English Proficiency Note: Kunming Medical University’s official International Education School requires IELTS 6.0 or higher (no individual band below 5.0), TOEFL iBT 85 or higher (no section below 20), or Paper-based TOEFL 580 or higher for non-English-medium applicants. Pakistani students who completed FSc in English-medium schooling submit a medium-of-instruction letter from their school in lieu of IELTS. MTZ prepares this documentation as part of the application process.
Physical and Medicments
Kunming Medical University requires all incoming international students to provide a Foreigner Physical Examination Record and blood check report. The examination covers a general physical check, blood tests, chest X-ray, and vision and hearing assessment. Conditions that may cancel admission: severe infectious diseases including hepatitis B, HIV, syphilis, or tuberculosis; mental or psychological disorders affecting study; and conditions that interfere with clinical training. Your child completes the medical examination at a Chinese Embassy approved hospital in Pakistan. Kunming Medical University reviews it, and KMU conducts an on-arrival re-check in Kunming.

Kunming Medical University operates three campuses: Chenggong Campus (the main campus and the location of international student teaching), Renmin West Road Campus, and Pingzheng Campus. The combined campus area is 98.8 hectares. The Chenggong campus address is 1168 West Chunrong Road, Yuhua Avenue, Chenggong District, Kunming 650500, Yunnan Province. The Chenggong campus houses the International Education School (IES), MBBS teaching buildings (Years 1 and 2), international student dormitories, campus canteen including the Qingzhen halal section, sports facilities, libraries, and direct bus and metro access to Kunming city centre.
The International Education School handles all administrative matters for international students: enrolment, residence permits, student ID, scholarship applications, and welfare issues. Pakistani students at KMU have direct IES access throughout their degree. From Year 3, clinical rotations move to KMU’s four directly affiliated hospitals. All sit within Kunming and connect to the Chenggong campus by metro, bus, or DiDi. Your child does not leave Kunming for clinical rotations.

Kunming (Chinese: 昆明) is the capital of Yunnan Province in south-west China, sitting at 1,895 metres altitude on the Yunnan Plateau. China nicknames the city ‘Spring City’ (春城) for its mild year-round climate. Average annual temperature is approximately 15 degrees C. Winter (December to February) averages 8 to 12 degrees C, cool but pleasant, with no frost in the city and no snow. Summer (June to August) averages 19 to 25 degrees C, warm without humidity. The rainy season runs June to October, but the city stays accessible. Pakistani students at KMU consistently describe the climate as among the most comfortable of any Chinese university city.
Transport within Kunming is straightforward. Kunming Metro serves the Chenggong campus directly. DiDi is reliable and widely used. City bus routes are extensive. Journey time from the Chenggong campus to the airport is approximately 30 minutes by DiDi or metro.
