Recognised. Xiamen University appears on the PMDC List of Recognized Foreign Medical Institutions for ‘Bachelor of Medicine in Medicine, MBBS, CHINA’. Verified at pmdc.pk on 29 May 2026.

Why this matters for your child: PMDC recognition is the gateway to the NLE Pakistan licensing examination after graduation. Without PMDC recognition of the awarding university, your child cannot practise medicine in Pakistan.

Authorised. Xiamen University is one of 45 Chinese universities authorised by the Ministry of Education to enrol international students in the English-medium MBBS programme. MOE authorisation runs since 2011 per the official Xiamen University MBBS Office.

Why this matters for your child: MOE listing means the MBBS programme is taught in English from Year 1 to Year 5, with a 1-year clinical internship in Year 6 across affiliated 3A hospitals.

World Directory of Medical Schools, joint venture of WFME and FAIMER

Listed. Xiamen University School of Medicine is in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools, the directory jointly published by the WFME and FAIMER, with records of more than 4,350 operational medical schools worldwide.

Why this matters for your child: WDOMS listing is the foundation requirement for international licensing pathways including ECFMG (USA), GMC (UK), MCC (Canada), and AMC (Australia).

WFME-recognised accreditation route via the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education (WCAME), the Chinese national accrediting body that holds WFME recognition. All 45 MOE-listed Chinese medical universities, including Xiamen University, sit under this accreditation pathway.

Why this matters for your child: From 2024, ECFMG requires graduates to come from a medical school whose accrediting agency is recognised by WFME. WCAME’s WFME recognition keeps Xiamen University graduates eligible for the USMLE and US residency.

Eligible. Xiamen University meets the ECFMG 2024 WFME-recognised accreditation requirement through its WDOMS listing and WCAME accreditation. Your child can sit the USMLE Steps and apply for US residency after graduation, subject to ECFMG application rules.

Why this matters for your child: ECFMG certification is the mandatory route to US clinical residency. Without an ECFMG-eligible primary medical qualification, the US pathway closes.

Eligible. The UK General Medical Council accepts overseas medical qualifications from WDOMS-listed schools. Xiamen University graduates can sit the PLAB examination (now consolidated under the Medical Licensing Assessment) for UK provisional registration.

Why this matters for your child: GMC acceptance opens UK Foundation Year 1 and Foundation Year 2 training routes for Pakistani graduates of MOE-listed Chinese universities.

6 Reasons Pakistani Families Choose Xiamen University

Xiamen University sits on the Xiang’an Campus in the coastal city of Xiamen, Fujian, holds 211 Project, 985 Project, and Double First-Class status, and is one of 45 Chinese universities authorised by the MOE to run English-medium MBBS. The six reasons below explain what your family gains here that other Premium-tier MOE-listed campuses do not match.

1

A 211 Project, 985 Project, and Double First-Class Research University, Not a Single-Faculty Medical College

Xiamen University is one of the small group of Chinese universities that hold all three top-tier national designations together (211 Project, 985 Project, and Double First-Class Initiative) and runs a graduate school, six academic divisions, 35 schools, and 17 research institutes alongside its School of Medicine. Six XMU disciplines including Chemistry, Marine Science, Biology, Ecology, Statistics, and Pedagogy hold MOE Double First-Class discipline status, and 19 disciplines sit in the ESI Global Top 1%. Your child studies medicine inside a full research university with cross-faculty libraries and supervisors.

2

MOE Authorisation for English-Medium MBBS Held Since 2011

Xiamen University was authorised by China’s Ministry of Education to run the English-medium MBBS programme in 2011 and has held continuous authorisation for 15 years. The MBBS Office operates from Aili Building 109 on Xiang’an Campus with three dedicated email channels: admissions, teaching, and student affairs. Your child enters a settled programme with documented curriculum, fixed clinical rotation schedules, and an MBBS office that runs a Fall 2026 official FAQ page dated 30 January 2026.

3

Lead 3A Hospitals With 6,000+ Combined Approved Beds in One City

Xiamen University runs 10 affiliated teaching hospitals, led by Zhongshan Hospital (3A, 3,500 approved beds across four campuses including the Eastern Branch under construction) and the First Affiliated Hospital (3A, 2,500 beds, six branches, JCI-accredited, HIMSS EMRAM 7-level certified, A+ rating for five consecutive years in the China National Performance Assessment of Tertiary Public Hospitals). The combined approved bed count at these two lead hospitals reaches 6,000, all inside Xiamen city. Your child rotates without leaving the city.

4

Faculty Built on Doctorate-Holding Teachers With Overseas Education Experience

The Xiamen University School of Medicine carries more than 110 academic faculty teachers plus more than 560 clinical doctors from the affiliated 3A teaching hospitals. More than 90% of faculty teachers hold a doctorate in medicine, and 64% have overseas education experience. Your child is taught by clinicians who have worked or trained outside China and who teach to international medical board standards from Year 1.

5

Xiang’an Campus Built Specifically for Medicine and Life Sciences

Xiamen University operates four campuses, and the medicine and life sciences divisions are housed on Xiang’an Campus, the dedicated science-and-medicine campus on Xiamen’s eastern shore. Hostel suites on Xiang’an Campus are arranged as four twin-rooms per suite with air conditioner, water heater, bathroom, and internet, with accommodation fees of CNY 1,600 to 4,000 per academic year. Your child studies, rotates, and sleeps inside the medicine campus, not a humanities one.

6

Established Pakistani Cohort Inside an XMU International Student Body of 2,800+

Xiamen University currently hosts more than 2,800 international students per Times Higher Education, drawn from 277 partner overseas universities across 14 Confucius Institutes in 12 countries. Pakistani students at Xiamen sit inside this established international body with senior-batch support, and Xiamen city itself carries one of Fujian’s largest Muslim-friendly food districts around Houbinlu and the Xiamen Mosque. Your child arrives into an existing network, not a first cohort.

ELIGIBILITY

Can Your Child Apply for MBBS at Xiamen University?

Academic Requirements (Qingdao University-Specific)

Xiamen University sets its own entry requirements, and PMDC sets additional conditions for Pakistani students. Both apply. The table below covers the university-specific requirements; confirm PMDC’s current MDCAT requirement at pmdc.pk before applying.

Citizenship

Average score above 80%, with every individual subject above 60% (Qingdao University rule). PMDC minimum is 60% Pre-Medical. The Qingdao threshold is stricter, so it governs the application.

Age

18 to 30 by 1 September 2027. Applicants 18 to 25 meet the standard age band. Applicants 26 to 30 are subject to additional background review including academic history and motivation. Applicants above 30 are not recommended to apply

Senior secondary education

Senior high school diploma or graduating senior high school student with pre-graduation certificate (FSc HSSC equivalent for Pakistani applicants); final FSc diploma submitted before academic registration

FSc Pre-Medical marks

Satisfactory academic record per XMU. PMDC NOC eligibility for Pakistani applicants: minimum 60% in FSc Pre-Medical (HSSC)

MDCAT (alert-triangle, amber)

MDCAT minimum 50% per PMDC NOC requirement for Pakistani applicants. Confirm the current PMDC threshold at pmdc.pk before applying

English proficiency

IELTS Academic 6.0 overall; OR TOEFL iBT 80 overall; OR Duolingo English Test 100 or above; OR an English-as-medium-of-instruction certificate from your child’s FSc school; OR applicants from countries where English is an official language are exempt

CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) (alert-triangle, gold)

MANDATORY for the 2027 intake. Required subjects: Mathematics (compulsory) plus Physics or Chemistry (choose one or both). 2026 was the pilot year with no fixed cutoff; the 2027 sitting requirement is set by Xiamen University at the time of application

Subject background

Senior high school science education including Biology (compulsory) plus Mathematics plus Physics and / or Chemistry

Physical and Medical Requirements

Xiamen University requires the Physical Examination Record for Inbound Travelers, which includes a chest X-ray image, an electrocardiogram, laboratory exam results, and the photographed data sheet stamped by the issuing hospital. Physical examination results are valid for 6 months from the date of the test. Your child must repeat the medical examination on arrival in Xiamen, paid at CNY 400 one-time per the Xiamen University MBBS Office, and must hold mandatory Chinese student medical insurance at CNY 800 per year as required by the Ministry of Education and Xiamen University regulations. Communicable disease screening is part of the pre-departure medical and is non-negotiable.

What MTZ Verifies Before Submitting Your Application

MTZ checks your child’s FSc Pre-Medical percentage against the PMDC 60% NOC threshold, your child’s MDCAT score against the current PMDC NOC requirement at pmdc.pk, and your child’s IELTS or TOEFL or Duolingo score against the Xiamen University minimum (IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 80 / Duolingo 100). MTZ books and tracks the CSCA registration on csca.cn with the correct Mathematics plus Physics or Chemistry subjects, confirms the sitting before the Xiamen September 2027 deadline, and verifies the 800-word Personal Statement and Letter of Recommendation against the Xiamen University MBBS Office submission rules. Document checks happen twice: once before submission to the Xiamen University Online Application System at application.xmu.edu.cn, and once before MOFA attestation and X1 Student Visa application. MTZ does not submit an application that fails any one of these checks.

CSCA EXAM, MANDATORY FOR XIAMEN UNIVERSITY 2027 INTAKE
Xiamen University requires every international applicant to submit CSCA results for the 2027 MBBS intake. Required subjects are Mathematics (compulsory) plus Physics or Chemistry (choose one or both). The CSCA exam runs in five annual sittings: January, March, April, June, and December. Registration is at the official CSCA portal: www.csca.cn (opens in a new tab).
The Xiamen University self-funded application deadline for the September 2027 intake is published in early 2027 (the 2026 cycle closed on 10 May 2026). MTZ books Pakistani families into the March or April 2027 CSCA sitting so the score arrives before the Xiamen University deadline. A Pakistani applicant without a valid CSCA Mathematics plus Physics or Chemistry score paper cannot submit a Xiamen University MBBS application. Any agent claiming CSCA is optional for Xiamen 2027 is misinformed or misleading you.

How MTZ Applies Pakistani Students to Xiamen University

The steps below cover the Xiamen University application only. For the full general MBBS application process for China, see our complete guide at /mbbs-in-china/.

Step 1

Eligibility Verification and FSc and MDCAT Audit

MTZ Islamabad or Lahore reviews your child’s FSc Pre-Medical percentage, MDCAT score, and English proficiency certificate against the PMDC NOC thresholds and the Xiamen University minimums. Your family receives a written eligibility outcome before any document collection begins. If FSc or MDCAT falls below thresholds, MTZ tells your family directly and refunds any consultation fee paid.

Step 2

CSCA Examination Registration and Sitting (MANDATORY for Xiamen University 2027 intake)

This step is mandatory before any other Xiamen University application step proceeds. MTZ registers your child for the CSCA exam at the official CSCA portal www.csca.cn (opens in a new tab) with the correct subjects: Mathematics (compulsory) plus Physics or Chemistry (choose one or both). MTZ books Pakistani families into the March or April 2027 sitting so the official CSCA score paper reaches the Xiamen University Online Application System before the September 2027 intake deadline. Your child sits the CSCA at an approved testing centre, and the official CSCA score paper is uploaded directly to the Xiamen University Online Application System at application.xmu.edu.cn.

Step 3

Document Collection and MOFA Attestation

MTZ collects and verifies the full Xiamen University document set: passport scan (valid through October 2027), birth certificate, parents’ identity documents, FSc Pre-Medical Diploma plus official transcripts, language proficiency certificate (IELTS or TOEFL or Duolingo or English-medium school certificate), CSCA score paper, Letter of Recommendation, 800-word Personal Statement, Physical Examination Record for Inbound Travelers, Financial Support Guarantee Statement, and No Criminal Record Report issued within 6 months of submission. Pakistani-origin documents are attested at IBCC, the Higher Education Commission (HEC), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Islamabad. MTZ Islamabad and Lahore staff hand-carry the attested document set through each gate.

Step4

Submission to the Xiamen University Online Application System

MTZ submits your child’s complete file through the Xiamen University Online Application System at application.xmu.edu.cn and pays the CNY 400 non-refundable application fee. The Xiamen University MBBS Office reviews academic documents, citizenship status, language proficiency, and CSCA score. Your child’s application is then forwarded to the School of Medicine for academic assessment.

Step 5

Xiamen University MBBS Office Academic Assessment and Interview

The Xiamen University School of Medicine conducts an academic assessment which may include a remote interview or written examination. The assessment focuses on academic capability, communication competence, and overall merit. MTZ coaches your child for the interview format, with mock interviews run from the MTZ Islamabad and Lahore offices, in English, with focus on the standard Xiamen University MBBS interview question pattern.

Step 6

Admission Letter and JW202 Issuance

Xiamen University is MOE-listed. A JW202 form is therefore required for your child’s X1 Student Visa application. On successful academic assessment, Xiamen University issues the Admission Letter and the JW202 form. MTZ collects both originals from the Xiamen University admissions office via courier or in-person collection through the MTZ Beijing liaison, and delivers the originals to your family in Pakistan.

Step 7

X1 Student Visa Application at the Chinese Embassy Islamabad

MTZ Islamabad prepares the X1 Student Visa file for submission to the Chinese Embassy Islamabad: passport, admission letter, JW202 original, Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Form 2018 A), proof of funds, photographs, and the completed visa application form. MTZ accompanies your child to the embassy biometrics appointment. Processing time at the Chinese Embassy Islamabad runs 4 to 10 working days. If the visa is refused, MTZ re-submits at no additional fee per the MTZ visa policy.

Step 8

Pre-Departure Briefing at MTZ Islamabad or Lahore

MTZ holds a 90-minute pre-departure briefing at the MTZ Islamabad office (G8 Markaz) or the MTZ Lahore office (Gulberg III), with your child and at least one parent present. Briefing covers: Xiang’an Campus orientation map, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport arrival route, Xiamen Pakistani student WhatsApp group introduction, halal food map of Xiamen (Houbinlu and Xiamen Mosque district), residence permit process at Xiamen Public Security Bureau Exit and Entry Administration, mandatory medical examination on arrival CNY 400, hostel registration, banking, SIM card and VPN setup. MTZ hands over an arrival pack including a printed Xiang’an Campus map, the Xiamen Pakistani senior batch contact list, and an MTZ 24-hour Pakistan helpline.

Step 9

Arrival in Xiamen, Hostel Registration, and Residence Permit

Your child arrives at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and is received by the MTZ-arranged airport transfer at no fee. The student moves into the Xiang’an Campus hostel (suites of four twin-rooms with air conditioner, water heater, bathroom, and internet, accommodation fee CNY 1,600 to 4,000 per academic year). Hostel registration, university registration, and the on-arrival medical examination (CNY 400) are completed within the first week. The Xiamen Public Security Bureau issues the Year 1 residence permit (CNY 800) within 30 days of arrival.

Where Can Your Child Practise After MBBS from Xiamen University?

Xiamen University’s MOE-listed status and WFME-recognised accreditation pathway open licensing routes across multiple countries. The three most relevant for Pakistani families are covered below. For the full country-by-country comparison across all 29 MTZ universities, see /mbbs-china-licensing/.

MOE-Listed Status

Xiamen University Holds MOE Authorisation for English-Medium MBBS Since 2011

Xiamen University runs its 6-year English-medium MBBS programme under Ministry of Education authorisation held continuously since 2011, listed among the 45 Chinese universities authorised to enrol international students in the English-taught MBBS programme. MOE authorisation is the upstream qualification that every downstream licensing body (PMDC, ECFMG, GMC, AMC, MCC, GCC authorities) requires before recognising the awarding institution.

Pakistan, PMDC NLE Pathway

Xiamen University Appears on the PMDC List of Recognised Foreign Medical Institutions

Xiamen University is listed on the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s List of Recognized Foreign Medical Institutions for ‘Bachelor of Medicine in Medicine, MBBS, CHINA’. PMDC recognition opens the National Licensing Examination (NLE) pathway after your child graduates: Step 1 PMDC NOC, Step 2 NLE, Step 3 PMDC provisional licence, Step 4 one-year house job at a PMDC-recognised Pakistani hospital, Step 5 full PMDC registration.

ECFMG logo featuring a circular emblem next to the text 'ECFMG'

ECFMG Eligibility (USA Pathway)

Xiamen University’s WFME-Recognised Accreditation and MOE-Listed Status Support ECFMG Eligibility

Xiamen University’s WFME-recognised accreditation route via WCAME and its MOE-listed authorisation support ECFMG eligibility under the 2024 ECFMG rule which requires graduates to come from a school whose accrediting agency is recognised by WFME. Your child can sit the USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Occupational English Test or equivalent during the MBBS years, complete ECFMG certification post-graduation, and enter the US residency Match.

MOE-Listed vs Non-MOE-Listed Universities, Which Suits You?

The 29 PMDC-approved Chinese medical universities where MTZ places Pakistani students split into two categories. Understanding the difference is the single most important decision a Pakistani family makes after committing to MBBS in China.

NMC India and BMDC Bangladesh apply to those countries’ students only. Pakistani students are unaffected by NMC India or BMDC Bangladesh rulings. PMDC recognises both MOE-listed and non-MOE-listed universities on the MTZ list. The PMDC List of Recognized Foreign Medical Institutions at pmdc.pk is the only register Pakistani families need to check.

Where Xiamen University Sits in This Split, Xiamen University is one of the 13 MOE-listed Premium tier universities on the MTZ list. Your child enters an English-medium 6-year MBBS, with HSK 4 reached by clinical rotation year for hospital communication, full PMDC recognition for NLE Pakistan, and full eligibility for USMLE, PLAB, UKMLA, AMC, MCCQE, DHA, MOHAP, DOH, and SCHS routes after graduation.

5 Risk Flags Every Pakistani Family Should Watch For

Age Limit (18 to 30 at registration)

Pakistani applicants above the Xiamen University age band of 18 to 30 risk outright rejection. Applicants 26 to 30 face additional background review.

MTZ’s protection:

MTZ checks your child’s date of birth against the 1 September 2027 registration cutoff at Step 1 of the application audit. If your child is outside the band, MTZ tells your family directly before any fee is paid.

September 2026 Cycle Closed, 2027 Deadline Pending Publication

Pakistani families approaching MTZ in mid-2026 for a ‘this year’ Xiamen application have already missed the 10 May 2026 deadline. Agents who claim ‘late applications still accepted’ are misleading you.

MTZ’s protection:

MTZ confirms in writing that the 2026 cycle has closed and the 2027 deadline is pending publication by the Xiamen University MBBS Office in early 2027. MTZ books Pakistani families to start the Xiamen application 6 months before the 2027 deadline so document attestation, CSCA registration, and visa appointments all align.

Document Quality (FSc, MDCAT, IBCC, HEC, MOFA attestation chain)

: Pakistani applicants with partial document attestation chains (IBCC done, HEC missing; or HEC done, MOFA missing) face Xiamen University application rejection or X1 Visa refusal at the Chinese Embassy Islamabad.

MTZ’s protection:

MTZ hand-carries documents through the full IBCC + HEC + MOFA chain in Islamabad and Lahore. Quality control runs twice: once before XMU submission, once before MOFA attestation.

PMDC List Status Changes

PMDC’s List of Recognized Foreign Medical Institutions is updated periodically. A university recognised in one intake season may face status change in the next.

MTZ’s protection:

MTZ re-verifies the PMDC list at pmdc.pk before placing every Pakistani student. The Last Verified date on this page (29 May 2026) is the date of the most recent MTZ verification.

Mandatory Status, Not Optional

Agents who claim ‘CSCA is not required for Xiamen University’ or ‘we have a back-channel that bypasses CSCA’ are misleading you. The CSCA Mathematics plus Physics or Chemistry requirement for the 2027 intake is set in writing by the Xiamen University MBBS Office FAQ Fall 2026 dated 30 January 2026.

MTZ’s protection:

MTZ registers Pakistani applicants for the official CSCA exam at csca.cn (Mathematics plus Physics or Chemistry) and books the March or April 2027 sitting before the September 2027 Xiamen intake deadline. No applicant is sent to XMU without a valid CSCA score paper.

Scholarship Opportunities at Xiamen University

Xiamen University offers a range of scholarships to international undergraduate students. The four schemes below are listed in the official Xiamen University 2026 Admission Guide. Notice that the historic Tan Kah Kee Scholarship has been suspended; MTZ flags this honestly rather than presenting it as available.

MTZ does not promise any scholarship. Scholarship awards at Xiamen University are made by the China Scholarship Council, the Fujian Provincial Education Department, and the Xiamen University Office of International Students, based on academic performance — these are the university’s independent decisions, not MTZ’s. MTZ guides eligible Pakistani students through the application process, prepares the required documents, and tracks the outcome. For the broader range of global scholarship opportunities that Pakistani students can also pursue (Türkiye Bursları, Stipendium Hungaricum, DAAD Germany, Erasmus Mundus, MEXT Japan, and others), see our Global Scholarships hub at /global-scholarships/ (opens in a new tab).

What MTZ Will Not Do

MTZ will not promise a fixed CNY-PKR exchange rate. PKR figures on this page are indicative only at 1 CNY = PKR 40.
MTZ will not promise a guaranteed job in Pakistan, China, or any other country after MBBS. Employment outcomes depend on the individual graduate, the licensing examinations cleared, and the labour market on the date of application.
MTZ will not promise that CSCA is optional, waivable, or bypassable for the Xiamen University 2027 intake. CSCA Mathematics plus Physics or Chemistry is mandatory per the official MBBS FAQ Fall 2026 dated 30 January 2026.

MTZ commits to a written eligibility audit at Step 1 of the application process, with a full FSc and MDCAT check against PMDC NOC thresholds.
MTZ commits to honest communication if your child’s FSc, MDCAT, or English proficiency score falls below the Xiamen University minimum, with the consultation fee refunded in full at that stage.
MTZ commits to hand-carrying documents through the full IBCC plus HEC plus MOFA attestation chain in Islamabad and Lahore.
MTZ commits to re-submitting the X1 Student Visa at no additional MTZ fee if the Chinese Embassy Islamabad refuses the first application, per the MTZ visa policy.

“Xiamen is too cold for Pakistani students.”

Xiamen carries a subtropical maritime climate. Annual temperature range is 10°C to 33°C. Winters are mild (10°C to 18°C) and summers warm and humid (28°C to 33°C). Xiamen is one of the warmer Chinese university cities for Pakistani students used to Punjab and Sindh climates.

“Pakistani students cannot apply to Xiamen University without MDCAT.”

PMDC NOC for Pakistani students requires MDCAT minimum 50%. The MDCAT requirement is set by PMDC for the No Objection Certificate, not by Xiamen University directly. The MDCAT score is part of the document set Pakistani applicants submit with their Xiamen University application. Confirm the current PMDC threshold at pmdc.pk before applying.

“MTZ can guarantee Xiamen University admission.”

MTZ does not commit to a guaranteed admission outcome.

Q1: Is Xiamen University recognised by PMDC?

Yes. Xiamen University is on the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council List of Recognized Foreign Medical Institutions for “Bachelor of Medicine in Medicine, MBBS, CHINA”. PMDC recognition opens the National Licensing Examination (NLE) pathway for your child after graduation.

Q2: What are the MBBS fees at Xiamen University in 2027?

The Xiamen University MBBS annual tuition is CNY 38,000 (PKR 15,20,000 indicative at 1 CNY = PKR 40). On-campus accommodation on Xiang’an Campus runs CNY 1,600 to 4,000 per academic year. Mandatory medical insurance is CNY 800 per year. The one-time application fee is CNY 400 and the medical examination on arrival is CNY 400. WhatsApp MTZ Islamabad or Lahore for the current PKR breakdown before any payment decision.

Q3: Is the MBBS at Xiamen University taught in English?

Yes. The Xiamen University MBBS programme has been taught entirely in English since 2011 under Ministry of Education authorisation. Classroom teaching from Year 1 to Year 5 is in English. HSK Level 4 Chinese is required by the time your child enters clinical rotations so the patient communication on the ward works in Mandarin, but Chinese (HSK) is not required for admission per the official Xiamen University MBBS FAQ Fall 2026.

Q4: Does Xiamen University require IELTS for Pakistani students?

Xiamen University accepts any one of the following as proof of English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 80 overall, Duolingo English Test 100 or above, or an English-as-medium-of-instruction certificate from your child’s FSc school. Applicants from countries where English is an official language are exempt. Pakistani applicants typically submit IELTS or an English-medium certificate from the FSc institution.

Q5: What is the intake date for MBBS at Xiamen University?

Xiamen University runs one annual intake in autumn, usually September. The September 2026 intake self-funded application deadline was 10 May 2026 and the cycle is now closed. The September 2027 intake application window opens in late 2026 / early 2027, with the self-funded deadline published by the Xiamen University MBBS Office. MTZ books Pakistani families to start the Xiamen application 6 months before the published 2027 deadline to allow time for CSCA registration, document attestation, and the Chinese Embassy X1 visa appointment.

Q6: What is the difference between MOE-listed and non-MOE universities, and which is Xiamen?

Xiamen University is one of the 13 MOE-listed universities on the MTZ 29-university list. MOE-listed universities run the MBBS programme in English from Year 1 to Year 5 under Ministry of Education authorisation. Non-MOE-listed universities run a bilingual MBBS with Mandarin used from clinical years. Both categories are PMDC recognised. Both are eligible for USMLE, PLAB, AMC, MCCQE, and DHA after graduation. The full side-by-side comparison sits in Block 10B on this page (anchor: #moe-vs-non-moe).

Q7: Is Xiamen University safe for Pakistani female students?

Xiamen University Xiang’an Campus operates separate female accommodation blocks with a dedicated female warden, separate dormitory entrance, male visitor restriction, CCTV coverage at every dormitory entrance and corridor turning point, and card-access entry on female floors. Xiamen city carries one of China’s higher-rated coastal Tier 2 safety profiles. MTZ Lahore and Islamabad brief every female applicant and her parents pre-departure, connect new students to Pakistani senior female students at Xiamen before travel, and share the named female warden contact with parents in writing. The full safety arrangements sit in Block 13 on this page.

Q8: What is the NLE and does it apply to Xiamen University graduates?

NLE is the National Licensing Examination administered by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. Every Pakistani citizen who graduates with a foreign medical qualification must pass the NLE before practising medicine in Pakistan. Xiamen University graduates are eligible to sit the NLE because Xiamen is on the PMDC List of Recognized Foreign Medical Institutions. The pathway after MBBS graduation is: PMDC NOC, NLE, PMDC provisional licence, 1-year house job at a PMDC-recognised Pakistani hospital, then full PMDC registration.

Q9: How many Pakistani students are currently studying at Xiamen University?

Xiamen University hosts more than 2,800 international students per Times Higher Education, drawn through 277 overseas partner universities. The specific Pakistani-student headcount on the MBBS programme is not published on the official Xiamen University site; MTZ holds the current Pakistani senior-batch contact list at Xiang’an Campus and shares it with new applicant families at the pre-departure briefing. WhatsApp MTZ for the current Pakistani student count at Xiamen.

Q10: Does MTZ charge for the eligibility check?

MTZ offers a free initial WhatsApp or office consultation. The full FSc and MDCAT eligibility audit (Step 1 of the Xiamen application process, Block 9 of this page) carries a one-time consultation fee. If your child fails the FSc 60% or MDCAT 50% PMDC NOC threshold at this stage, MTZ refunds the consultation fee in full. Fee details are confirmed in writing at the MTZ Islamabad (G8 Markaz) or Lahore (Gulberg III) office before any payment.

Q11: Is the CSCA exam mandatory for Xiamen University MBBS 2027 intake, and what does it cover?

Yes, CSCA is mandatory for the Xiamen University MBBS 2027 intake per the official Xiamen University MBBS FAQ Fall 2026 published at mbbs.xmu.edu.cn on 30 January 2026. CSCA stands for the China Scholastic Competency Assessment, comparable to the SAT and administered by the official CSCA authority. Xiamen University requires the CSCA Mathematics paper (compulsory) plus Physics or Chemistry (choose one or both) for Medicine applicants. The CSCA exam runs in five annual sittings: January, March, April, June, and December. The last practical sitting for the September 2027 Xiamen intake is the April 2027 sitting, which gives time for the official CSCA score paper to reach the Xiamen University Online Application System before the deadline. Registration is at the official CSCA portal www.csca.cn (opens in a new tab). MTZ books Pakistani families into the March or April 2027 CSCA sitting at csca.cn and uploads the official score paper to application.xmu.edu.cn before the Xiamen September 2027 deadline.

Q12: Do I need to learn Chinese (Mandarin) to study MBBS at Xiamen University?

Chinese (HSK) is not required for admission to the Xiamen University MBBS programme per the official MBBS FAQ Fall 2026. Classroom teaching from Year 1 to Year 5 is in English. Your child must reach HSK Level 4 by the time clinical rotations begin so the ward communication with Chinese-speaking patients works in Mandarin. Xiamen University offers Chinese language classes from Year 1 to support international students towards the HSK 4 standard. The HSK 4 requirement is a working-language gate for clinical years, not an admission gate.
